Obituary
Although many newspapers charge for obituaries, The Watchman feels the passing of current or former community members certainly qualifies as news. Obituary text is published at no charge so long as it is written objectively, and in standard obituary format. Most funeral homes will submit obituaries directly to The Watchman, if that is requested by family members. Obituary submissions from individuals are accepted as well, when the death occurs outside of the local area and submission to The Watchman has not been requested of the funeral home.
Photos may be included with any obituary, for a fee of $20.00. Two photos may be used (usually an older photo and a current one) for a fee of $40.00.
Attach photos to your email, and include a billing address if you wish to be billed for the photos. Or click “obituary picture” in the “shop” tab, to pay for the obituary photo online.
Please do not include expressions of thanks or lengthy personal sentiments in the text of an obituary. Those items can be purchased in the Watchman as a form of advertising, and will not be included in free obituary text. See the “Tributes and Thanks” tab.
